ADELYA URMANCHE
Adelya Urmanche, originally from Kazan, Russia and now calls New Jersey home. With a bachelor’s from Montclair State University and a master’s from Teachers College, Columbia University, she is currently pursuing her doctorate in clinical psychology at Adelphi University. Interested in working with people who use alcohol and drugs, she is influenced by the public health and social justice approach, investigating not only the stigma that comes along with both incarceration and substance abuse, but also the systemic issues that continue to generate and deepen racial and health disparities. Adelya’s ambition is to integrate treatment, research, and policy by confronting systems of inequity and increasing access to empirically-based treatment and harm reduction practices. In her free time, she surrounds herself by open-minded people, cats, and books she’ll one day have time to read. She enjoys strong coffee and sensible policy, preferably at the same time.
