project reset, teaching artist position
frequently asked questions
I was recently sent the job application for a Teaching Artist position with BJI from a former colleague, and was really interested in the position. I wondered however, if you are specifically looking for visual artists. My particular background, and current studies is theater.
Teaching artists from any discipline who are interested are welcome to apply to this position.
The description in the link was a little different than you presented last week - particularly the schedule. Am I correct that you’re looking for 2 separate artists, and each will take over 1 day per week? (it says "bi-weekly", which some people use to mean every other week and some as twice a week.)
Yes, we are looking for two separate teaching artists. They will facilitate a session every other week, which is meant when we reference bi-weekly. Our expectation is that one will be dedicated to facilitating on Wednesdays 2-5 PM and the other on Thursdays 10 AM -1 PM. They are also expected to attend planning meetings which are expected to happen on the week they are not facilitating a session. This is subject to change but will be discussed when planning to ensure it works with their schedule.
The required information on The Confined Arts' website for the application seems different from the LinkedIn's, should I reapply on one of the websites? (I saw Center For Court Innovation had the job listing on their website as well)
We apologize for the confusion. We have done some troubleshooting with CCI to ensure that all of the information is consistent across websites. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding your application.
The job posting says that it is an entry level position, is it okay if I don't necessarily have experience in formal art teaching?
In the review process We will honor the fact that you have experience with tutoring for art and also some experience teaching.
(I've done teaching English in another country and art tutoring but not like a college class at an art school or anything.) Therefore I don't have a sample outline for workshops, is there something else I can submit instead?
The purpose of requesting this material is meant to be an opportunity for you to give the applicant reviewer(s) some additional insight into how you would execute your work with the participants in real time.
I have direct experience regarding the criminal justice system and currently on probation but in another country. Do I still count as a person directly impacted by the justice system even though it wasn't in the US?
Yes
Would it be better to provide a traditional resume of work experience or a CV of my art experience?
We recommend you submit the document(s) you believe will give the applicant reviewers the best insight into your relevant experience. While you should not feel compelled to submit a resume and a CV, you are more than welcome to submit both. The same principle applies for submitting a bio vs a cover letter.
Would you recommend that I prepare letters of recommendation for any part of the application process?
The recommendations will be obtained via a survey and not in letter form to lessen the inconvenience for everyone. Everyone who is selected to move to the first round of interviews will be updated on the process for obtaining recommendations.
