Read to Me Literacy Literacy Program

Sharing picture books with a child you love is a wonderful experience that they will always cherish. The Read to Me program was created to support family connections through reading. Combining technology and stories, we can strengthen family bonds, and improve literacy skills.  The program will take place throughout the summer. By participating in this program a caregiver will 
  1. learn easy to implement read aloud strategies, 
  2. receive a picture book to build their at home library, and 
  3. create a recorded video of themselves reading a selected reading book. ​
A video link will be shared with that special child. The child will be able to have that beautiful video reading experience even when that adult cannot physically be there. There are so many wonderful benefits that come from sharing stories. Let’s have some fun creating memorable family moments and future avid readers.
Read to Me Goals:
  1. More Enjoyment: Improving family relationships through literacy.
  2. Increased Awareness: Parents becoming more aware of the importance of reading with children.
  3. Improved Relationships: Parents and children enjoying stories together.

MEET THE FACILITATOR

Delores Connors has 30 years of teaching experience. She is a certified Reading Specialist and Licensed Dyslexia Therapist. Mrs. Connors is the author of the children’s books, I Don’t Want to Go!, and You See Mom… She is the Founder of Write2Matter, a specialty greeting card line and social justice enterprise. She currently teaches reading at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Teaneck, NJ. She lives in Bergenfield, NJ with her husband Matthew and son Dean.
